Great Britain

United Kingdom Independence Party

UKIP was a coalition of right-wing opponents of Britain’s membership of the European Union. While the party has long endorsed structural racism, [former British National Party members have been banned from holding party membership](https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/ukip-hopeful-calls-ex-bnp-members-allowed-party-25613) and when supporters made racist outbursts in the press, which happened fairly often, [they were swiftly dealt with](https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2013/apr/24/former-bnp-member-disowned-ukip). More than anything UKIP was a cult of personality for Nigel Farage and when he left the party there was a struggle over what direction it would go in. At one point there was a concerted effort to seize control of UKIP by the far-right, [initially by Anne Marie Waters](https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/anne-marie-walters-anti-islam-ukip-leadership-hopeful-84442), then again by Gerrard Batten who publicly associated the party with Yaxley-Lennon and the DFLA. Around this time, from 2018 onwards, there has been a significant amount of far-right entryism into the party. This led to infighting in the party and all of its elected representatives leaving. Now UKIP is close to insolvency and the far-right entryism is largely over but could flare up again. Former reality TV star turned far-right YouTube Katie Hopkins has recently joined the party.
