Sergey Baburin

Sergey Baburin is a Russian nationalist politician, member of the State Duma of the first, second and fourth convocations and a leader of the Russian All-People’s Union and an ex-leader of the Rodina political party. As rector, he chaired the Russian State University of Trade and Economics from 2002 to 2012.

**A political career**

In 1991 he initiated the creation of the Russian People’s Union (ROS). At the congress of ROS in December 1991 he was elected chairman of the coordinating council of ROS. Since 1994 – Chairman of the Russian People’s Union as a political party. On 17 December 2011, the Russian People’s Union movement held a congress at which it was transformed into a party. On 22 December 2017, the congress of the Russian People’s Union party nominated its leader, Sergey Baburin, as a candidate in the 2018 presidential election. On 18 March 2018, Sergei Baburin won 0.65% of the vote in the presidential election, finishing in eighth place.
