Justin Barrett

PUBLIC Justin Barrett, born 1971 and raised in Tipperary by adoptive parents is current leader of the National Party (NP) since party launch in 2016. Barrett has been politically active since 1988 joining Young Fine Gael at 17, joining Youth Defence (YD) in ’92 going on to become leader of the militant anti-choice group. Barrett took part in many violent YD action, was convicted for disorder at a protest outside a Dublin hospital in 1998. Barrett campaigned against divorce and then got a divorce and remarried to Limerick primary school teacher, Rebecca Barrett who is known for echoing Barrett’s racist hate. Barrett self-published a book/manifesto ‘The National Way Forward’ in 1998 advocating for a catholic fascist Ireland. The book was highly praised by neo-Nazi’s. Barrett went on to forge links with European neo-Nazi and fascist groups including NPD (Germany) and Forza Nuovo (Italy). May 2000 Bavaria at an NDP rally, Barrett gave speeches to hundreds of fascist skinheads and unrepentant elderly Nazis alongside notorious American white supremacist William Luther Pierce and prominent Italian fascist Roberto Fiore. Fiore was convicted of being a member of the political group implicated in the 1980 bombing of Bologna railway station which killed 85 people. Barrett ran as an Independent on an anti-immigration platform in the 2004 EU election. He founded NP in 2016 (with James Reynolds) and has described the Party as ‘only for straight Irish people’ and frequently makes homophobic remarks. During the 2018 referendum campaign Barrett called for the execution of doctors who perform abortions.
