Alain de Benoist is a central thinker of the French New Right, “Nouvelle Droite”. He was involved in the creation of the GRECE, the research and study group for the European civilisation in 1968. Before that, he was active in the movement Europe-Action, together with Dominique Venner among others.
He remains considered as a key intellectual figure of the French far right today, as his work provided a lot of material and theoretical foundations for identitarian movements who claim to wage an ideological battle against the “Left” at large. Because of his interests and focus on ecological issues, he has inspired current far-right positions on ecology.
He is the director of publication of the magazine Nouvelle École founded in 1968 and still a central author in Éléments, the official outlet of the GRECE launched in 1973. In 1988 he co-founded the magazine Krisis which he continues to head.
