In its second turn, the ECR group made a significant shift to the right by welcoming parties such as the german Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), the danish DF, the finnish Perussuomalaiset (PS) and the bulgarian Vatreshna Makedonska Revolyutsionna Organizatsiya – Bulgarsko Natsionalno Dvizhenie (VMRO-BND). With this the group grew significantly in size compared to the former election period.
