Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia)

Brothers of Italy – named after the opening words of the country’s national anthem – was formed in 2012, following the direct inheritance of MSI (Italian Social Movement), a far-right institutional party founded for the new republican regime by former members of the fascist dictatorship, such as one of its most famous leaders, Giorgio Almirante.
Brothers of Italy party even keep some traditional symbols of MSI, such as the tricolor flame and the acronym in their logo.
FDI is lead from 2014 by Giorgia Meloni and many members of its establishment politically grew in that area during the ’60s and are therefore used to a revisionist propaganda, mixing nationalist pride with victimhood about Italian political decline.
FdI is a national-conservative, traditionalist, post-fascist and sovereign party, founded in 2012, based on the spiritual vision of life, the “traditional family” and the ideology of patriotism. Altright ideology is another peculiar aspect of their political approach.
Another evident trend is the high [rate of criminal infiltration](https://www.globalist.it/news/2020/12/07/fratelli-d-italia-e-il-clan-mafioso-di-silvio-l-inchiesta-di-report-imbarazza-meloni/), through local candidacies, indeed an expedient arranged even by neofascist movements with their prominent members, in order to gain more influence and resources.

The double face of Brothers of Italy, sitting alone on parliamentary opposition to the Draghi’s government, growing in the polls, competing with Salvini in capturing the black consensus, which is increasingly young, organized, animated in schools and gyms.
The chronicles tell that FdI and therefore the president[ Giorgia Meloni](https://www.patriaindipendente.it/persone-e-luoghi/interviste/giorgia-meloni-e-i-suoi-pupilli/) herself, are struggling to distance themselves from the neo-fascist right, the one that discriminates, hates, takes to the streets with Roman greetings and even praises Nazi officials. Nonetheless at the last administrative elections in the capital, Casapound’s taunt tortoise supported Meloni’s party with the “Roman Will” list.
