On February 2022, the governing conservative party, New Democracy, passed a new bill that gives to the Supreme Court final authority to potentially ban from the elections parties that “their existence does not promote the democratic functions of the system of government”. This bill was intended to block “Greeks” from participating in the elections, as a Golden Dawn spin-off, but most antifascists have criticized the government’s bill as a dangerous precedent for other parties, as well as eventually glorifying the convicted former leading member of G.D., portraying him as an anti-systemic figure.
