Giorgia Meloni

“I am Giorgia, I am a woman, I am Italian, I am Christian. You can’t take this away from me!” repeats Giorgia Meloni in a viral video on the web.
She has been the leader of the national-conservative party Brothers of Italy since 2014 and the president of the European Conservatives and Reformists Party since 2020. She has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy since 2006.
She served as Minister of Youth in Silvio Berlusconi’s fourth government (2008-2011) and was president of Young Action first and then of Young Italy, the youth sections of National Alliance and People of Freedom respectively.
Meloni is well-known for her radical right-wing stances on immigration, LGBT rights and abortion. Such an opposition to human and civil right defines the original features related to fascist password “God, homeland and family”. Though the attempts to reshape her party in a more modern nationalist platform, the slogan “Italy and Italian people first”, for instance, is popular with contemporary fascist movements such as Forza Nuova.
Meloni has recently published an autobiography ‘Io sono Giorgia’ (‘I am Giorgia’) and is hardly competing with Salvini for right-wing leadership.
In December 2021, Meloni signed the Madrid Charter, a document drafted by the Spanish right-wing party Vox that describes left-wing groups as enemies of Ibero-America involved in a “criminal project” that are “under the umbrella of the Cuban regime”.
