Editor of Heritage & Destiny magazine. In May 2021 Cotterill stood as an independent candidate in the Lancashire County Council elections. Patriotic Alternative activists distributed leaflets on his behalf during the election.

Cotterill was banned from the USA for a decade for founding American Friends of the British National Party (AFBNP), [which illegally raised $85,000 for the British National Party](https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/intelligence-report/2002/us-boots-brit) (BNP). In the 1980s Cotterill was a member and then organiser for the National Front (NF).
